Established in 2015, Nspire-Us Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to influencing and enriching the lives, minds, health and behavior of our community’s youth in a positive and affective manner. Nspire-Us strives to make a difference in the challenging needs of today’s technology-savy youth by demonstrating to them via various collaborations, programs and techniques that empowers them to reach their full potential.
Our D.R.E.A.M. (Determine your, Reality, Educate yourself, Adjust your Mindset) workshop is an Nspire-Us program targeting 400 teens per semester from 5 different schools in the community, which equates to 160 participants per school in one year. This 8 week- long workshop covers subject matters such as vision boards, the law of attraction, how to set goals and make positive choices, self-esteem, basic etiquette, philanthropy, networking, healthier living and the importance of higher learning.
The DREAM workshop will work with groups of teens from the same environment which will help them to understand how to engage and learn from multiple perspectives. Building more diverse networks of friends from different societies will increase social capital in these communities.
The purpose of the DREAM Workshop is to empower youth to be more engaged with their future by giving them a deeper understanding of how to create better opportunities for themselves which will foster inclusion and increase access. Cultivating youth to be aware of their dreams, to visualize them, and to set attainable goals is how the DREAM Workshop will help them to understand and address issues that can and will impact lives.
Nspire-Us will encourage teens to dream bigger than their environment. Where you’re from shouldn’t define where you end up in life. Being a part of the DREAM workshop will expose students to opportunities they may have never thought were available to them. The program consists of but not limited to the following:
- Create an information video about what students and learning in the program
- Attend LIVE healthy cooking demonstrations from Johnson & Wales culinary school
- Engage in roundtable discussions with community leaders
- Partner with evidence-based programs such as Wise Guys®
- Philanthropic activities such as feeding the homeless & clothing/food drives
- Visioning activities like creating vision boards and goal charts
- College & University tours
This workshop is important to the community because it shows youth they can improve their environments by improving themselves. The DREAM Workshop is important to Charlotte and surrounding areas because this city is in the position to build higher levels of trust in communities.
